What an emotional roller coaster of a journey this book was. Chimamanda has an incredible gift with words. Her beautifully written, carefully formed sentences can make the most mundane of tasks and daily routines sound so fluid and engaging.
This is a well-written, easy book with simple yet impactful stories. Easy in the sense that there are no convoluted plots, and no use of grandiose words meant to impress.
Although it's fiction, Chimamanda offers introspective observations about the world around her, which she expressed so eloquently in her signature poetic prose, through the narratives of the four main characters.
This book is multifaceted, with one of its many layers focusing on women's issues, making it educational as well. The bittersweet aspect of the book is how it tackles relatable and often sad discussion about life: that familiar stage we all reach (or will reach) when we reflect on the good and bad moments, when we regret the opportunites we may have missed, when we mourn the chances we didn't take but should have, and when we yearn for lost time to go back and do things differently.
